California Charter Schools Get 13 Million In Education Grants

The department awarded 27 new grants in 12 states totaling $39.7 million distributed under the Charter Schools Program to high-quality school networks expand.

“These charter school grants will help open new charter schools and expand or replicate those with a record of success to help ensure that every student has access to high-quality educational opportunities that prepare them for college, careers and life,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in a statement.

During the first year of funding, the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools received $2.4 million, Aspire Public Schools $3.3 million and Green Dot Public Schools $7.4 million.

The California-based charter school networks are expected to get additional funding next year.
